Purpose & Vision
Calvary Chapel Kelowna Bible School was established to serve as a means for students to come and be equipped by the Word of God. We are here to obey our Lord Jesus Christ’s command to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. Our desire is to see men and women’s lives changed by the power of God’s Word through His Spirit and, being changed, to see them obey the Great Commission and go out. Our purpose could be summed up with three verses out of II Timothy. We desire for students to know whom they have believed (1:12); for students to be taught in the Word and then be able to teach others (2:2); and to train students to be diligent workers, who have no need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth (2:15).
Our vision here at Calvary Chapel Kelowna Bible School is guided by the aforementioned purpose. We desire to see students grow in their knowledge and love of God and His Word and to see them practically live out their faith. Our hope is to see every student become involved and equipped in ministry when they leave. Our earnest prayer is that students who attend here will grasp God’s missionary heart and will become full time church planters, missionaries, or pastors; however, we know that God will also call some students to go home and lift up their local church bodies by teaching Sunday school, attending prayer meetings, evangelizing, etc. Our vision is to see the each member of the Church become involved in their local body, exercising their gifts and becoming servants following the example of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Kelowna, British Columbia
Eight years ago, God raised up Calvary Chapel Kelowna to teach His word in the beautiful province of British Columbia. God continues to work in Calvary Chapel Kelowna by His Holy Spirit and has now provided for Calvary Chapel Kelowna Bible School to raise up and equip men and women of all ages and professions to love and serve Him in Spirit and in truth. Calvary Chapel Kelowna Bible School is a small campus dedicated to seeking the Lord, studying His word, and practically serving the body of believers and the community that surrounds it. The dynamic of a small campus includes becoming a part of the local body, which the student is expected to humbly serve in love and minister alongside other believers.
Campus Life
Student housing is just a short bike ride from the church and a short walk to beautiful Lake Okanagan. Students will live in dormitory style rooms in the Koinonia house and share a kitchen and bathroom. Additional living space is available but space is limited, so it is best to send your application as soon as possible. Your place for the upcoming semester is not secure until we receive your deposit. Another applicant may be given your place if we receive their deposit before yours.
A key part of the dynamic of CC Kelowna Bible School is living and interacting with the community of other students. We’ve seen and know that God uses close living to teach students about patience, others centeredness, prayer, and sacrifice. With this in mind, please observe the following:
- Pray for one another regularly.
- Submit to one another and seek to serve one another.
- Deny yourself; sacrifice your wants to help others in need.
- Beware of gossip and putting others down.
- Practice forgiveness always.
- Realize that God is in control and that He has divinely placed you where He wanted.
- Learn what He wants to teach you.
Important Information
What to bring when you come:
- Books: required textbooks can be purchased before coming or at a local bookstore. Total costs for textbooks should not be more than $150/170
- Clothes: Please bear in mind that we have 4 full seasons here in Kelowna so bring the appropriate clothing for the semester you will be attending.
- MP3 Player: As a part of your Biblical study, you will be listening to Pastor Chuck Smith on MP3 (Chuck Tracks). We recommend you bring an mp3 player to listen to them.
- Computer: We encourage you to bring your laptop computer for those who have them. We have limited space available for desktop computers so please check with us before you decide to bring one with you.
- Bedding: We will provide you with your bedding, however if you have a special bedding that you prefer, we encourage you to bring it.
Please keep in mind that we have a limited amount of space, so bring only what you need.
Guidelines for Campus Life:
- Students will be living in the Koinonia House in dormitory style rooms that house 2 people each. Keep in mind that students do not choose roommates.
- Students of the opposite sex are not allowed to visit in the dorm rooms.
- We ask that you keep your room clean and personal items in order, out of respect for your room mate.
- CCKBS is not responsible for lost or stolen valuables.
- Don’t use another student’s personal belongings without their permission
- The staff is available to assist you in any prayer needs or counseling you may require. We understand that spiritual warfare is a major obstacle to students while in Bible School; this is why we are available to you for prayer day and night.
- Devotions are held Monday through Thursday. Students will meet before class (8:30 through 9:00) for a short time of worship and devotion shared by a student or staff member.
- Besides classroom learning, each student will be involved in serving in some practical areas such as volunteering in community service and/or serving the local body.
- On campus students are required to: Attend the Friday night “Young Adults”, attend on CC Kelowna on Sunday, and be involved in some area of ministry at CC Kelowna.
Leaving Campus & Weekend Travel: For accountability purposes, students will be required to fill out a travel voucher if leaving for one or more days.
Curfew & Noise: Students are required to be in the house by 12 midnight during the week, and 2am on the weekend. At 10pm during the week the house will be quite so students can study or sleep.
Moral Code:
The following things are not permitted while attending CC Kelowna Bible School:
- Drinking of alcohol on or off campus.
- The use of recreational drugs.
- Smoking cigarettes.
- Students of the opposite sex in a dorm room, without staff permission.
- Foul language.
Student Relationships:
Clothing: Dress appropriately and modestly. The staff reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of a person’s dress. Do not wear clothing that will stumble your brother or sister or misrepresent Christ to the community.
We know that some Christians feel the liberty to practice some of these things. The concern guiding this rule is not primarily your personal righteousness, but how you get along with and affect others in the Bible School. We don’t want to stumble others or draw undue attention to fleshly appearances. We want to draw people’s attention to the beauty of Jesus and His love and be extra gracious to our Canadian community. We want to simply apply the heart Paul spoke of in 1 Corinthians 9:19: For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more.
- Obtaining Money: The local banks and ATMs will let you draw money from your bank account, however be aware of the service charges.
- Laundry: Machines on campus available for use and students will be assigned a schedule to do their laundry.
- Local outreaches: Plan to participate locally and a few hours away.
- Receiving packages: Students may receive packages at the dorm house, but be aware of shipping costs that will apply to the receiver, or you.
